Ernest Lloyd “Ernie” Matthews, son of the late Gordon L. and Myrtle Frances (Leadbetter) Matthews, was born on November 12, 1950 in Murray, Utah and departed this life August 12, 2013 in The Manor Nursing Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He had attained the age of sixty-two years, and nine months. Ernie had made his home in Grandin, Missouri since moving here from Salt Lake City, Utah in 1969. He worked on the riverboats for twelve years before driving trucks for Asher Trucking where he worked for twenty-three years. He was a hard worker in every endeavor and if he liked you he would do anything for you, but if not, he would let you know it. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, fixing guns and tinkering. His family and friends will miss him. He is survived by three children; Ernest Alan Matthews of Maynard, Ark., Josh Matthews and Shelbie Matthews both of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Linda Bowman (Dean) of Festus, Arlettia Casper (Wayne) of Tabiona, Utah, and Cindy Matthews of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Ricky Matthews (Janice) and Johnny Matthews all of Poplar Bluff and many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore, Missouri with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. Rev. David Tharp will officiate.
